The Future is all about History

History is often referred to as “in the past” and has little to do with the future unless you are studying it for reference. But some select things in life today are very much because of its past: Grandma and Grandpa’s cool stories about their younger days; The neighbor’s old collectible car gathering dust in their garage; That spooky old house at the end of the road and the ghost stories that accompany it; the barely recognizable scar on your knee that has a not so proud moment attached to it; and even some names too that you likely rarely hear nowadays like Telesforo, Andres or Luzviminda; in cars – there’s Alfa Romeo, Cadillac, Aston Martin – some of the oldest names in the industry; and of course in motorcycles, you have one of the oldest but coolest names – VESPA.
There are very few brands in the world that is so closely attached to its own history that without it, the brand would probably not exist today or not have the love of its followers the way it does. That is because without its history, it is only a motorcycle.

Enrico Piaggio started Vespa in 1946 like many other start up motorcycle companies at that era – the same year Freddie Mercury was born, Tupperware came to existence, the Bikini controversially debuted, and when the United Nations had their first meeting. This was a good & interesting year to be around. Mr. Piaggio named it Vespa (Italian for the insect “wasp”) due to the sound it made which bore close semblance to that of the insect sound when flying.

Since the day Vespa became available to the public (and much like the insect it was named after) “swarms” of Vespa owners have grown globally unlike any other motorcycle brand so much so that, after 18 million units sold worldwide, the “Vespa World Day” has become – like the motorcycle, a global sensation annually in nearly all nations. Countless thousands of Vespa owners – the likes of some you have never seen, gather to celebrate friendship, music, food, cultures, and so much more. This all started in 1953 – the same year where we saw the first polio vaccine, hydrogen bomb, double helix DNA strand, the end of Korean wars and the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.

76 years since the inception of this Italian wasp scooter begs the question, “How?” How has this little 2 wheeled wonder not just survive but thrive in the test of time? One universal answer – fashion. Vespa is closely attached to self expression, beauty and personalization – key components of human nature. That is why you never see a Vespa owner who is not fashionable nor will you ever see a stock vespa without some form of personal touch from its owner. How can one not connect the Vespa name and motorcycle to fashion when names like Vogue, Emporio Armani, RED and Christian Dior, Givenchy, Dolce & Gabbana all associate themselves in one way or another to the brand or the bike? You see this in photos, billboards, posters and in social media everywhere in the world today.

Wheeltek saw the beauty of the Vespa brand. They started selling motorcycles way back in 1974 – the same year we saw People Magazine, the first Stephen King novel, out of control global inflation and “Happy Days” started airing on TV. And last year in 2021, Wheeltek started selling Vespa to bring this historic icon closer to the people of Calamba and the rest of southern Luzon. Because you see, you need to own one before you can join any Vespa club and participate in their Vespa World Days. That is why a visit to the Wheeltek Vespa showroom at Wheeltek Bldg. Km 50 Manila S Rd, Real 4027 Calamba City will show you all the nicest new models you can choose from like the basic S125, Sprint 150, Primavera 150, or the sporty GTS and Sei Giorni, or the ultra expensive 946 Emporio Armani Limited Edition, Vespa 946 Christian Dior Limited Edition & not to forget the upcoming collaboration with Justin Bieber who was born on 1994 – the same year Netscape was the web browser of choice.

So when are you going to become part of history? It’s 2022 – the year we saw Omicron become the dominant virus to infect earth and the year you got a Vespa. Let’s make history.
